How to Persuade Mom

Sometimes it takes a bit of persuasion to get what you want. Being able to persuade someone like your mom takes a little practice but most of the time it can be done. Abstaining from whining or knowing when it's the right time to ask will help you convince mom to get you what you want.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Wait until the time is right. Don't ask mom for something just as she walks in from a hard day at the office. Give her some time to unwind and settle down. If she's tired, hungry or in a bad mood, then put off the questions.
Step2
Put a few dollars together before you try to persuade your mom. If what you want costs money, save your allowance. Let her know how much you can put towards what you want and she'll see the willingness on your part.
Step3
Be deserving of what you're asking for. Persuading mom will be easier if she feels like you deserve to get what you want. If you got in trouble at school or don't help out at home you probably won't have a chance.
Step4
Ask nicely and be grateful. Don't demand that you get what you want and start whining over it. The power of persuasion works best when you ask in a respectful manner.
Step5
Start with a reasonable request. Keep in mind that if you're asking mom for something that is unreasonable the answer will probably be, no. Be realistic and find a compromise before you even ask.
Step6
Show mom that you're capable of handling what you're trying to get. If you want a cell phone and you know you have a better chance of getting it if you can help pay for it, ask her to increase your chores and allowance.
Step7
Play the waiting game. Mom may want to give you what you're asking for but can't at the moment. Or, she wants you to wait just a bit longer. If she says yes but you have to wait, don't fight--just wait.
