Things You'll Need:
- Quality shampoo and conditioner
- Towel
- Hair dryer
- Wide-tooth comb
- Round brush
- Blow drying lotion, mousse or gel
-
Step 1
Wash and condition your hair with a quality shampoo and conditioner formulated for your hair type. Wrap your head in a towel and let it stay that way for at least ten minutes or press on your hair with a towel to remove excess moisture.
-
Step 2
Start at the ends of your hair and gently comb it with a wide-tooth comb, removing knots and tangles. Towel dry any moisture that works its way to the ends.
-
Step 3
Use a protective blow drying lotion on your hair if it's dry or coarse. If it's fine or oily, use a mousse or gel. Concentrate mousse or gel near the roots of your hair because this is where you need the most lift.
-
Step 4
Bend over and dry underneath your hair first. Use your fingers to gently comb and lift your hair as you dry it. Blow dry your hair in the direction it grows, or perpendicular to your scalp. To create more extreme lift, blow dry your hair upward, and be careful not to overdry or you'll lose body.
-
Step 5
Dry your bottom layer of hair first and work your way up to the top of your head. If your hair is long and thick, use clips to hold up the top sections of hair while you work on the bottom.
-
Step 6
Place the hair dryer underneath each section of hair and brush through the underside of your hair as you dry it. Curl the ends, if you like, by spinning the brush as you dry the ends.
