A triker bike refers to a recumbent bike that has three wheels. It has a swing mechanism that sits under the seat so you sit low to the ground on the seat that reclines slightly with the pedals in front of you. They are comfortable and offer more stability compared to a regular bicycle.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look for a comfortable ergonomically designed seat. Some seats and handlebars are adjustable.

  2. Step 2

Pick a triker bike that will fit you. Some fit children only and some are better for adults. Some have weight and height restrictions. Some have a maximum weight of 175 lbs., 220 lbs. or 300 lbs. Check on the dimensions before buying a triker bike.

  3. Step 3

Decide what kind of brakes you want. There are options for hand brakes, choosing one or two brakes, mechanical disc brakes or flat pull brake levers.

  4. Step 4

Determine what kind of steerage you would like on your triker bike, direct or linkage. Direct steering has two handlebars, each connected to the front wheel. When you want to turn, lean towards that side. The linkage has a single handlebar connected to a pivot point and then connected to the wheels.

  5. Step 5

Choose the options you would like. Triker bikes come in several colors. Options in frames include lightweight aluminum, steel frames or expensive carbon fiber frames. Some frames are lighter, others more durable. Triker bikes range from three speeds to 36 speeds. You can also choose chain drive or no chain drive.
