Traveling is one of the greatest joys in life, and it need not be cost-prohibitive if you take the time to plan carefully. If you are one of those people who enjoy all the wonderful experiences that travel offers, yet you do not see the need to stay in fancy hotels, look into staying at motels or hostels.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with hostelworld.com. Also, check out hostels.com. Both sites offer helpful booking information and details about the locations.

  2. Step 2

Know that the time and date of travel can afford you cheaper rates on motels and hostels. For example, booking a trip to New York City during major American holiday weekends will create a costly and complicated exercise in trying to find cheap digs to stay in. Likewise, if you want to go to Europe, trying to book your stay during the summer will create an expensive task. Book during the off-times.

  3. Step 3

Sign up at Orbitz and Hotels.com to monitor rates so that you can book the cheapest when it is available. By going to these sites and entering your name and travel information, along with your email address, you can be regularly updated on the most affordable rates for cheap motels.

  4. Step 4

Check out Priceline.com and bid on your room. This is a great way to save a ton on cheap digs when traveling. You bid at the rate you wish to spend, and you can really see a huge difference in the amount of dollars you fork over for your stay. However, bear in mind that once you bid on it, and you win, you are locked into staying at that motel.
