How to Maintain a Hydroponics Nutrient Reservoir

Hydroponic plants usually receive nutrients through a nutrient reservoir. The nutrient reservoir holds the growing medium and the hydroponic fertilizer solution, which contains nutrients that allow your plants to grow without soil. The amount of nutrients each plant needs may vary depending upon its stage of development.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Dilute the fertilizer mix according the instructions provided before pouring it into the nutrient reservoir. Use hydroponic fertilizers only.
Step2
Keep the pH of the hydroponic fertilizer solution between 5 and 6. Add water or fertilizer mix to achieve an appropriate pH.
Step3
Add water as needed to keep the level of fertilizer solution in the nutrient reservoir consistent. After water evaporates from the reservoir, concentrated fertilizer solution can burn plant roots.
Step4
Change out the fertilizer solution about every 2 weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can water household plants with used fertilizer solution.
