How to Do a Nollie Pop Shuvit

Doing a nollie while skateboarding is simple enough. A pop shuvit isn't much more difficult. The hardest part is landing after the 180-degree spin, but with practice and confidence, you can land it with ease.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Start with both feet on the board, the middle of your feet on the resting on the bolts. Place one foot on the front and let your heel hang off the edge just a bit.
Step2
Position your feet according to the direction you want to spin. If you want the board to spin toward you, slide your front foot forward; for the opposite spin, slide your food back. Your front foot should still be in the middle of the board, well behind the front truck.
Step3
Begin to roll at a comfortable speed; this means "slowly" for the newbies. Next, choose either the simpler route with Step 4 or make it more difficult for yourself but much cooler with Steps 5 and 6.
Step4
Practice with the easy version. Pop the nose to get the rear trucks in the air, then shuv your back foot behind you. The board stays on the ground, but pivots beneath you. Basically, you just hover over it. Land. Pick your feet up and set them down over the bolts of the truck.
Step5
Go for the harder set. Pop the nose hard (hit the nollie). When the board reaches its peak, slide your back foot up behind you. Since the board is airborne, this is a bit more difficult.
Step6
Land like you would on a pop shuvit. Place your front foot near the middle or toward the nose and your back foot near the tail. With a bit of practice, the board will spin right under your feet.

Tips & Warnings

  • In the harder version, the front of the board often jumps forward, so leap as high as you can to keep from hitting your front ankle.
  • Don't use your front foot to assist the shuv. If you do, the board might do a 360 shuv and fly behind you. Remember, the back foot is doing the work.
