How to Decorate a School Locker on a Budget

The well-decorated school locker has more to do with a student's needs and personality than the decorations themselves. Before choosing items to decorate a locker, consider how much you have to spend, what needs to be stored in the locker, and what colors or pictures the student wants to look at throughout the school year.

Instructions

    • 1

Brighten up the inside of a school locker with colorful background paper by attaching things such as wrapping paper, pictures from old calendars or favorite cartoon strips to the inside of the door. Sparingly use double-stick tape to attach these things so they'll be easy to remove later.

Use magnets on top of the background paper to post notes and pictures of friends and family or add a small calendar inside the door. Let inexpensive magnets boost the locker decoration by choosing ones that compliment the background paper.

    • 3

Include a special area for messages and storage for small items by hanging up a magnetic dry erase board and a magnetic locker organizer box. These items can be found for under $10.

    • 4

Create more usable space in a school locker and keep it organized by adding stacking locker shelves or an adjustable double locker shelf. Some of these shelves are available in bright colors, and they can be purchased for $20 or less.

    • 5

Add a wire basket at the bottom of a school locker if you don't want to install shelves. A wire basket will provide a place to store bags, backpacks, shoes or a change of clothes. Make sure you measure the inside of the locker so you get the basket in the right size.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check dollar stores for bargains on calendars, wrapping paper, dry erase boards and other items. Like other stores, dollar stores typically stock additional school supplies before the start of the school year.
