How to Do the Party Popper Prank

A party popper is a novelty item sold along side of fireworks. Although not a true firework, the popper is ignited by a pull string and detonates with a loud pop, then shoots out confetti. A quick adjustment to the party popper results in an party prank spraying sugar or salt on to the pranked person. This is a memorable trick that may irritate, but not harm most people.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Standard party popper
  • Knife
  • Teaspoon
  • Sugar or salt
  1. Step 1

    Remove the party popper's bottom cardboard cover from under the supporting plastic rim with a knife. Empty out and discard the contents. Leave the cardboard liner in place.

  2. Step 2

    Fill the empty popper container with approximately 1 tsp. of sugar or salt.

  3. Step 3

    Replace the cardboard cover under the plastic rim as it was before it was removed. Use the knife to make sure it is secured properly in place.

  4. Step 4

    Give the adjusted party popper to an unsuspecting victim. They must hold the popper vertically or at an upwards vertical angle with the sting side down. Encourage them to pull the string to ignite the explosion.

Tips & Warnings
  • This not a suitable activity for children. Don't point the adjusted popper towards the face.
