How to Fix Lace Bite With Hockey Skates

Lace bite is a problem in which you feel sharp pain along your lower leg to the base of your big toe. This usually occurs after you first purchase hockey skates. The skates are stiff and not broken in yet, causing severe pain when skating.

    Instructions

      • 1

Loosen the hockey skate slightly. Your foot shouldn't be able to move around but it shouldn't pinch either. Try out it for a couple minutes and see if the lace bite ceases.

      • 2

Soften up the hockey skates by baking them. Place them on a cookie sheet in the oven for a couple of minutes until they are soft and pliable. Put the hockey skates back on while they are warm then walk or skate around until they conform to your feet.

      • 3

Take your hockey skates in to a professional skate shop and have them altered. They will measure your foot then add or remove padding as necessary until the lace bite is fixed.

      • 4

Give your hockey skates time to break in. Often times you will only get lace bite until the skates are properly broken in. It is going to hurt for a while and you may get blisters, but after several times of wearing them it will go away.

    Tips & Warnings

    • It will be impossible to fix lace bite if your hockey skates are too big or small. They must fit properly. Visit a store that specializes in hockey supplies to get your skates sized properly.
