Forklift operators operate industrial trucks with forks on them. The forks move and lift large objects from one place to another. Forklifts come in different sizes and use different types of energy depending on whether they're used indoors or out. If you'd like to become a forklift operator, follow these steps.

        Know that job growth is slow due to increasing computer technology, factory automation and slow manufacturing job growth. Although demand is low, there are still job openings for forklift operators.

        Realize there's some risk of injury since you'll be moving and lifting large objects with your forklift. You may also have to do some hand lifting to move objects onto a pallet or platform, which is then moved onto your forklift.

        Note that there are no educational requirements for forklift operators, but many employers prefer a high school diploma or GED certificate. Forklift operators also must be able to read and write.
