How to Make Lint Papier Mache

For the novice maker of papier mache crafts, lint papier mache is an economical alternative to store-bought papier mache. Working with lint papier mache can help you hone your papier mache craft making ability before you move on to the more expensive materials.

  • Wheat flour
  • Water
  • Wintergreen oil
  • Newspaper
  • Large saucepan

Instructions

      Collect 3 cups of lint from your dryer, 2 cups of water, 2/3 cup of wheat flour, wintergreen oil, newspaper and a large saucepan.

      Pour the water into the saucepan and place it on a medium-heat stovetop burner. Allow the water to warm a bit before taking the pan off the burner and pouring all of the lint and wheat flour into the saucepan. Put the saucepan on the burner again and regularly stir the lint into the water and cover every piece of lint to guard against lumps. Put 3 drops of wintergreen oil into the mixture.

      Lower the heat to and continue stirring. Wait until the mixture connects into a whole mass and forms ridges and peaks. Take the saucepan off of the burner.

      Lay some newspaper on a counter or flat surface. Transfer the saucepan's contents onto many layers of newspaper.

      Let the lint papier mache mixture cool on the newspaper.

      Use the lint papier mache mixture in your craft projects. Let the lint papier mache dry for at least a week after completing the project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store your lint papier mache in a clear, airtight container if you don't intend to use it right after you make it. The papier mache will be usable for 3 days after the storage date.
