How to Create a Meta-Contact in Trillian

If you have a contact in Trillian Instant Messenger that connects to Trillian under several different types of services, then you may want to merge these contacts together to form a Meta-Contact. Having the one Meta-Contact will allow you to more easily keep your contacts organized and easy to contact. Keep reading to find out how to create a Meta-Contact.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Trillian 3 Instant Messenger

Step1
Start Trillian Instant Messenger and allow it to load until you see the icon in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. Double-click on the icon to open the Trillian Instant Messenger interface.
Step2
Locate the accounts for the one contact that you want to merge to form a meta-contact. All of the accounts must be displayed in order to view them all.
Step3
Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and click on each instance of the same contact, no matter what account they are using on Trillian.
Step4
Release the CTRL key when you are finished selecting the contacts you want to merge.
Step5
Right-click on one of the contacts you selected and choose "Create Meta Contact" to open the "Create Meta Contact" dialog box.
Step6
Type a name for the Meta-Contact. This is how the contact will now be displayed on the Trillian window. The name is only a local name and will not be displayed to your other contacts.
Step7
Click the "OK" button to close the dialog box and return to the Trillian interface. You can now see that all the accounts of this person is formed under one contact. The contact will now behave like a group where you can choose their different accounts by visiting your contact preferences.
