How to Join Communities on Orkut

Orkut is an online social networking community for people over 18. When you join Orkut, you get a profile page and can add a scrapbook, photos, videos and links to your blogs. There are also many communities you can join. It's easy to join communities on Orkut, just follow these steps.

Instructions

1. Type Orkut.com into your browser and sign in or create a Google account. Supply your birthdate and agree to Orkut's terms and conditions.

2. Fill out the profile page which asks for your name and address. Optional entries include names of colleges you attended and what type of social networking you're interested in—friends, activity partners, business networking or dating. Click "Finish."

3. Browse your profile page which includes links for uploading photos, messages from your friends, lists of your friends and links to your blogs.

4. Click the link at the top of the page that says, "Communities." You'll see a list of communities at the right.

5. Choose a category that interests you and browse the different communities. Pick one you'd like to join.

6. Notice there's a "Join" link at the left of the page for the community you've clicked on. Click it if you want to join. You'll be asked if you're sure you want to join the community. If you are, click "Join" again.

7. Realize that if the community is listed as "public" under "Type," anyone can join and you will immediately become a member after you click the "Join" button. If the community is private, you'll have to wait for permission from the moderator. You'll be notified of your acceptance via email.
