Whether it is a trip to the United Kingdom or a matter of simple curiosity, learning to calculate your weight in stones is interesting and a great "did you know" for parties. Learning to convert metric into the imperial system is an easier and entertaining classroom experiment, especially at the elementary school level. The stone is part of the imperial measurement system and remains in use within the British Isles. All you need is your current weight and a calculator. The math is very simple.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Switch on electronic scales or turn manual scales to "0" using the dial at the front of the scales. Always take the time to reset a scale before stepping on it to ensure an accurate weight each time.
Step2
Step on the scales and note your weight in US pounds. Understand that there are 14 US pounds in one UK stone and this is the basic formula needed to calculate the weight. If conducting this as an experiment with children, it may be a good idea for them to note their weight on a piece of paper so they don't forget.
Step3
Input your current weight into a calculator and divide the amount by 14. The number in front of the decimal point is the number of stones and the number after the decimal point is the number of UK pounds. For example, 138 US pounds divided by 14 equals 9.85 so the example person would weigh 9 stone 9 pounds in UK measurements.
Step4
Know that to convert stones to US pounds you would multiply the UK weight by 14 instead of dividing by 14.
