Canada's Air Force features some of the best and most rigorously trained fighter pilots in the world. Becoming part of this elite group takes not only skill and hard work but a few physical and educational requirements that you can't avoid.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure that your vision is 20-20 or better (unless you're re-enrolling in Canada's air force, in which case there may be some leeway) since this is an obligatory passage point for all pilots in the Canadian Air Force. Speak with your local Air Force recruiter about the relevance of corrective laser surgery if you don't meet the vision requirement.

  2. Step 2

Enroll in a program that works towards a degree (at minimum a bachelor's degree) from a college or university that is accredited by the Canadian government. After you enroll in your higher education degree program make sure to earn the best grades you can since the air force selects fighter pilots from a pool of all-around elite candidates.

  3. Step 3

Enter into the Regular Officer Training Program of Canada's air force if you're already attending or planning to attend a college to achieve a post-secondary degree. If you already have a college degree then you should speak to a local recruiter about going into the Direct Entry Officer program.

  4. Step 4

Go through the basic officer training for the Canadian air force which includes a first phase of general training and, upon successful completion of the first phase, a second phase of language instruction that lasts 7 months. Once you've completed officer's training you then need to go into pilot training which begins with a Primary Flying Training course that you must pass in order to progress to high levels of fighter pilot training.

  5. Step 5

Perform at the highest levels during the 8 month long Basic Flight Training, during which you can be selected for the Fast Jet program that leads you into fighter pilot training.
