Use Teas to Reduce Anxiety

Anxiety presents itself in many ways. You may feel nervous, have a tension headache, a jittery stomach or even feel nauseous. Herbal teas can help address all these symptoms, calm you down and ease your discomfort.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for teas containing L-Theanine. It's an amino acid found in tea plants and is responsible for green tea's flavor.

    • 2

Know that L-Theanine has calming effects. Drink green tea to get this effect. If you find the caffeine stimulates your system, look online and in natural food stores for a de-caffeinated version of green tea.

    • 3

Infuse 1 oz. of feverfew herb in boiling water. Cool the tea before drinking. Feverfew will calm you down and ease headaches caused by anxiety.

    • 4

Use valerian to reduce your anxiety. There are valerian teas on the market. You can also buy powdered valerian root.

    • 5

Add 1 tsp. of powdered valerian root to boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes. Strain and add honey to make it sweeter. Drink 1 cup before bed time.

    • 6

Soothe an upset stomach or frazzled nerves with peppermint. Mix peppermint with equal parts of caraway seed and betony to a total of one teaspoon. Infuse it in boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain and add sugar or honey to sweeten.

Tips & Warnings

  • Side effects of feverfew include possible nausea or mouth sores.

  • Don't take feverfew if you're pregnant.

  • Beware that drinking more valerian than recommended can increase nervousness and cause headaches or vertigo.
