While the Ornish Diet stresses extremely low-fat eating, with less than 10 percent of your calories coming from fat, Dr. Ornish also maintains that you must exercise to have success on the program. The exercise combined with low-fat eating keeps your metabolism steady and helps you lose weight. Follow these steps to exercise while on the Ornish Diet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Know that regular exercise revs up your metabolism. It keeps it from dipping too low and causes spikes in your blood sugar.
Step2
Make an effort to do at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day. If you can't fit it in every day, exercise for one hour three times a week.
Step3
Pick an exercise that you like doing. This can be brisk walking, using elliptical machine, playing a sport or biking.
Step4
Vary your exercise routine to keep from getting bored. Consider switching your exercises every other day.
Step5
Incorporate some sort of stress-management technique into your day. This includes meditation, yoga or massage. Dr. Ornish stresses the importance of quieting your soul and increasing self-awareness.
Step6
Invite a friend to exercise with you. It's a known fact that working out with a buddy keeps you more motivated to stick to a routine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't start the Ornish Diet without first speaking with your doctor.
