Step 1
Write a guest list. The first thing to decide is how much of your family you want to include in the reunion. You'll have to determine whether only close relatives will be invited or whether third cousins and great aunts you haven't seen in years also will be invited.
-
Step 2
Include other family members in the planning of the reunion, and ask them to help you contact people on the guest list. Contact people by phone before sending invitations so you can gauge your family's interest in attending a reunion and ask them about their favorite Fourth of July activities.
-
Step 3
Make a budget and decide whether you'll ask other family members to chip in on expenses. Include the price of renting a place to hold the reunion if it won't take place at your home.
-
Step 4
Pick July Fourth recipes to reflect the spirit of the day. They might include American flag cookies, Fourth of July baked beans and traditional standbys like potato salad and coleslaw.
-
Step 5
Choose entertainment that appeals to several age ranges. You might hire a DJ, play family games or go on a scavenger hunt for patriotic items.
-
Step 6
Decide how much decorating you want to do for the reunion to support a Fourth of July theme. The theme could reflect patriotism, or it may be a dazzling array of red, white and blue. Consider whether you want to make any of the decorations and if you want some of them to be take-home gifts for family members to remember the day.
-
Step 7
Expect everyone at the reunion to want to see a great fireworks show at the end of the day. Find out in advance which venues have the best shows. Make sure you arrive early for a show to get a good spot to watch the fireworks, especially if you have a large family.
