Tai Chi, as with all martial arts, is a commitment of time, energy and money. Understanding the style and choosing the right school will keep you practicing and enthused.

  1. Step 1

    Research the five main styles of Tai Chi. Each style has a different level of aggressiveness and may include weapons.

  2. Step 2

    Ask friends for references. Chances are you have a colleague that already practices Tai Chi. Ask questions about the school, the style and how often he attends classes.

  3. Step 3

    Check websites and blogs for schools in your local area. See if they offer a free trial class. You wan to be able to observe and absorb.

  4. Step 4

    Create a list of questions to ask the school owner. How long has she been teaching? What is student enrollment? Who teaches the assistants or the head instructor? What is the price structure?
