Stationary is a great thing to have to express individuality, to use for miscellaneous notes and to send cards, but it can cost a fortune to have a set made or to purchase pre-made sets. This is a great way to create your own and put your own touch on it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Glue stick
  • Markers
  • Pens
  • Stamps
  • Cardboard box
  • Cardstock
  1. Step 1

Draw out a general idea of a logo you would like or a color scheme you would prefer for your set before purchasing your paper or stamps. You can go with your initials, a favorite phrase or quote, a picture or a flower. Once you have narrowed down to the theme, then decide on your color scheme for purchasing your paper. Large chain stores are the best places to go to purchase a large pack of paper, and normally they offer multipacks with several colors if you can’t decide on one or wish to have a mixture. This is also where I would recommend on getting the cardstock.

  2. Step 2

If there is a trademark stamp you would like, try places like a dollar store to look for one you may like. They also have markers and pen sets, glue sticks, foam core and cardboard. If you can’t find what you are looking for there, the other large chain stores are still a good solution, or the small specialty art stores will also have it.

  3. Step 3

Try to jot down a general idea of how many you would like of each type of category, such as recipes, thank-you card, thinking-of-you cards, blank cards, notes, envelopes and any other category you may wish to add. Next try to decide on the size you would like for each piece.

  4. Step 4

When making the box to hold the stationary set, you can either have all the pieces laying flat or at an angle. I prefer at an angle. Taking the dimensions of the pieces you wish to create, arrange a layout of how you would like them in your box. If they are flat, lay them down and allow for extra room for dividers when creating your box. If they will be at an angle, they will not need as much room, so you can underestimate the space needed lengthwise but not widthwise.

  5. Step 5

With these measurements, cut the top and bottom of your box. Cut the side pieces. The height of the box should be between 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/2 inches tall. Cut the divider pieces for each section; they can either be as tall as the sides or 1/4 inch shorter. Glue all the pieces down onto the bottom piece using either white glue or hot glue. Allow to dry.

  6. Step 6

Your stationary envelopes are just a rectangle with four triangles extended from each side. For a pattern you can undo an existing one you already have or draw one up yourself. Another style is to have the bottom piece fold up to the top with two smaller sides folding in on the side for the bottom to attach to and a top piece to fold over for the flap. When assembling the envelopes, use the glue stick. You can use your stamp for a direct mark or create your mark on a separate piece and then cut it out and glue it onto the envelope.

  7. Step 7

For the cards, take the cardstock and cut to the appropriate sizes and fold them either on the side fold or top fold, depending on your preference. Add additional colors by cutting pieces from your other paper and gluing it on, adding your own trademark stamp or written emblem for embellishment. Borders made by dark-colored markers stand out well for a trademark emblem.

  8. Step 8

For recipes or notes, a 3-by-5-inch card is best and can even be separated by themes, such as spring, winter, fall, and summer for the notes, and entrées, deserts, appetizers, vegetables, soups, breads, and sandwiches for recipes. Color code the sections or have a different emblem for each section.

  9. Step 9

Once your stationary is completed to your satisfaction, put each group in its pre-selected slot and put on the top cover. Decorate the cover as you wish and make it visible that this is your stationary set, so that next time you need it, you will easily know which box its in.
