Sarah Silverman has become one of the most controversial comedians of all time. She's not afraid to say anything, no matter how she may be perceived. She lampoons racism, sexism and does so in the most crass manner imaginable. You'll need to have guts in order to mix Sarah Silverman's crassness with her innocence.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Study Sarah Silverman's influences. She has said that Steve Martin, Garry Shandling, Jimmy Kimmel and Ruth Gordon have influenced her comedy stylings. Knowing what she thinks is funny and what has influenced how she became such a controversial comedian will help you develop the same type of humor.
Step2
Develop an innocent image. Sarah Silverman is most often seen wearing a t-shirt, jeans, sneakers and her hair in a ponytail or pigtails. Her youthful outfit offsets the dirty things about to come out of her mouth. Put together your own youthful image so the controversial humor you're about to put forth doesn't offend as easily.
Step3
Give yourself an innocent voice. Sarah Silverman is soft-spoken with a high pitched, ultra-girly voice. Imitate that or find another innocent voice to hide behind. Say everything with your eyes wide and an innocent look on your face.
Step4
Watch Sarah Silverman's stand-up. Rent "Jesus is Magic" or watch her piece in "The Aristocrats." Also study her show on Comedy Central, "The Sarah Silverman Program," which perfectly exhibits her strange mixture of inappropriate innocence.
Step5
Say anything. Don't be afraid of being gross or offending someone. You're free to make jokes about anything, as long as it's politically incorrect. Just do it with a sweet smile.
Step6
Learn to play the guitar. Part of Silverman's innocent image is that she gently strums her guitar while singing potentially offensive lyrics in soft, sweet voice.
Step7
Practice. Sarah Silverman has said the best way to become a comedian is to be "on stage" as much as possible. You'll have to hone your act in order to mix the perfect amount of innocence and crassness. Perfect this and your audience will be howling with laughter.
