Since former Beatles singer Paul McCartney announced his separation and pending divorce from one-time model Heather Mills, a flurry of acrimony and accusation has been splashed across international newspapers. For his part, Paul McCartney has managed to proceed through the ugly divorce with an unusual amount of grace. You can do the same.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Hire a divorce lawyer who you know can handle your case without your worrying or having to be the public face of your divorce trial or settlement. McCartney chose top British attorney Fiona Shackelton and gave his attorney the authority to act and speak on his behalf, thereby letting him maintain his dignity through the process.
Step2
Redirect focus from the ugliness of the divorce to more positive things as Paul McCartney did by pointing out his love for his children, including his and Heather Mills' daughter Beatrice, and the value that music has for him. McCartney made a point to stay positive, especially when his former spouse, Heather Mills, slammed him with accusations.
Step3
Try to get a gag order for as much of the process as possible, especially where your former spouse is concerned, as McCartney and his legal team did with the Heather Mills trial. The gag order allowed McCartney to stay graceful and dignified since he didn't have to respond to details about the trial and settlement.
Step4
Make statements to friends, family and even the public when you feel your spouse has gone too far in making accusations, just as Paul McCartney did after Heather Mills accused him of spousal abuse. The singer broke his careful silence to combat what he thought were false and destructive allegations made against him and managed to do so with grace.
Step5
Agree to a settlement found by a court if you think it's reasonable. Even if you don't think it's a correct settlement, hold your tongue so you can fight the settlement through proper channels, as McCartney did after the $50 million settlement in favor of Heather Mills.
