Things You'll Need:
- Hair mousse
- Flat-bristled brush
- Large curling iron
- Teasing comb
- Hair rat
- Hairspray
-
Step 1
Add mousse to your hair, especially to the roots and top, to give it body and texture. Blow dry the hair, brushing it smooth with a flat bristled brush and concentrating on getting high body.
-
Step 2
Curl small sections of your hair with a large curling iron to give it even more texture. Amy Winehouse always has textured curls or waves flowing down. Run your hands through the finished waves to separate the strands--you don't want curly hair, just textured hair.
-
Step 3
Part the hair diagonally, from the top of the head to the ear on each side with the teasing comb. Section this front hair off with clips to focus first on the back.
-
Step 4
Make a small ponytail at the top of the head where the hive should be and pin it into a knot. Add a hair rat--a ratted synthetic hair ponytail inside an invisible hair net--over the knot and pit it to your head. This will give you the lift you need for Amy's style without having to back-comb so much of your hair.
-
Step 5
Carefully brush the front pieces of hair over the rat and pin them at the back of the beehive. Tease your hair pieces slightly to get the lift you want, but smooth them over the rat to keep your hair looking styled, not too messy.
-
Step 6
Spray your hair for extra hold and push stray hair aside. Part the front bangs to the side and push them out of your face. For another classic Amy Winehouse option, grab the loose bottom hair and pin it up and over your shoulder.
