Over time, the jets of whirlpool or Jacuzzi tubs accumulate some pretty gunky stuff (think skin cells, pooh from the little ones' bottoms, etc.). This easy method of cleaning your tub is a sure-fire way to ensure you can luxuriate in the cleanest tub possible.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large canning pot or bucket
  • Hot Water
  • 4 Electric Dishwasher Tablets
  • 2 or 3 clean, dry cloths or sponges

Step1
Fill pot or bucket about three-fourths full with hot water.
Step2
Drop electric dishwasher tablets into hot water; Wait about 10 minutes to allow them to start to dissolve.
Step3
With the drain closed, empty water with tablets into your tub.
Step4
Fill the tub just over the jets with warm water.
Step5
When tub is filled, turn on the jets and allow them to run for 20 minutes.
Step6
Turn off the jets and drain the tub completely, using a clean cloth or sponge to force dirt from jets down the drain.
Step7
Refill tub with clean, warm water, again filling above the jets. Turn on jets for 10 minutes.
Step8
Turn off jets and drain tub again. This second filling is more for rinsing out the excess soap and any bits of dirt that weren't removed from jets the first time. Again, use a clean cloth or sponge to wash any stray bits of dirt down the drain.

Tips & Warnings

  • How often you use your whirlpool or Jacuzzi tub depends on how often you will want to clean it. If you use you tub once a week or more, cleaning it twice a year should be sufficient. If you use the tub every now and then (less than once a month), an annual cleaning is all you need to keep the jets clean.
  • Do not use liquid or powder electric dishwasher cleaners since they tend to produce more suds than the tablets.
