Crochet is one of the most popular crafts today, and learning new stitches is vital. The learning of a new stitch can be the burst that people need to create vibrant project that everyone will talk about. The popcorn stitch is easy and can create great textured looks. The texture and play of colors will create a beautiful, long popcorn stitch bag. Popcorn stitches are formed by creating several completed double crochet stitches that are joined at the top.

  • I-size crochet hook
  • 3 different colors of yarn in the same family of colors

    How to Make a Popcorn Stitch Bag

  1. Step 1

    The popcorn stitch uses completed double crochet stitches and joins with the first stitch. First, you need a foundation of chain stitches. Now, you will need to work 5 double crochet (dc) into the next stitch (st), remove the hook from the loop and reinsert hook in both loops of the first dc. Then, reattach the last loop onto the hook, draw through the first dc. Then, chain one before starting next popcorn stitch.

  2. Step 2

    Now that you have the stitch down, you will need to select the colors that you want your bag to use. With a size-I crochet hook, chain (Ch) 60 st. Ch 1 to turn. Create sc in each stitch across to the end and chain 1 to turn.

  3. Step 3

    The body of the bag will consist of different number of colored rows in popcorn stitch. With the first main color (mc) create a * popcorn stitch(pc) work 5 dc in the st, remove the hook from the loop and reinsert hook in both loops of the first dc. Then, reattach the last loop onto the hook, draw through the first dc. 1 sc* continue this to the end of the row and chain two to turn. Do that for a total of 8 rows before changing to the second color.

  4. Step 4

    Once the bag is complete you can sew in a coordinating or contrasting lining. Turn the bag so that the right sides are facing each other and sew both the side and bottom closed. Last you need to find a nice set of handles of your choice and secure them to the bag. This will also add some eye-catching results.
