Make a Lion King Cake

How would you like to surprise someone special on their birthday with this adorable Lion Cake? It is fun and easy to make, and you can use your imagination, using different candy or cookies than I did to embellish him.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cake mixes any flavor
  • 2 cans frosting, one milk chocolate, and one dark chocolate
  • 1- 9" round cake pan
  • 1 loaf pan
  • cupcake pan ( at least 12 cupcakes)
  • toothpicks
  • skinny cocktail straws
  • red Twizzlers
  • 2 Dumdums or other round candy for eyes
  1. Step 1

Prepare 2 cake mixes separately, according to directions on the box. Spray 9 inch round pan, loaf pan and cupcake pans with non-stick or baking spray.
Pour batter into round pan 2/3 full, cupcake pans 2/3 full, and remainder into loaf pan. Bake at 350 according to cake mix package directions for those sized pans.
Let cool for 10 minutes and remove from pans. Let cool fully before assembling.

  2. Step 2

Place round layer on large flat serving tray. Cover round layer with milk chocolate frosting.
Cut 2 triangles off of one end of the loaf cake, use these for ears, frost with milk chocolate frosting. Frost nose with dark chocolate frosting on another platter, then place on top of round layer with the pointed end at the bottom. Also frost just the tops of 2 cupcakes in the darker frosting for cheeks. (leftover pieces to snack on !)
Mix light and dark chocolate frosting, just enough so that it is very streaky, and frost cupcakes. Place around round layer, using toothpicks if necessary to hold them in place. Fill in with more streaky frosting.

  3. Step 3

Add Dumdums or other round candy for eyes. Cut red Twizzlers lengthwise with scissors to outline mouth, and ears. Use a piece for a tongue.
Toothpicks or cocktail straws make good whiskers.
