Easy steps to reduce your water consumption without drastically changing your lifestyle.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • old ice cream bucket
  • rinsed half gallon jug
  • sand/water

Step1
Fill half gallon jug with sand or water. Place in the tank of your toilet. This will save 1/2 gallon of water for each flush!
Step2
Place ice cream bucket or other larger vessel in kitchen sink. Whenever you let water run to either get cold or hot, run the water into the bucket instead of down the drain. You can use this water to water plants, fill pet water dishes, top off fish tanks, fill ice cube trays, etc.
Step3
Instead of letting the water run to get cold, utilize ice cubes. It is better if you make your own in re-useable trays than to purchase cubes sold in plastic bags.
Step4
If you fill up a glass of water and decide you only want a sip, or if you set it on your night stand and need to refill it with fresh water the next night, instead of dumping the old water down the drain. Use it to water plants, fill pet water dishes, boil noodles, etc.
Step5
Install a low-flow shower head and avoid taking baths. The new low-flow shower heads have excellent pressure, unlike some of the older versions.
