How to oil cornet valves

Learn how to oil the valves of your cornet without causing damage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• valve oil
• cornet

1. Turn cornet upside-down.
2. Remove caps from bottom of cornet valves.
3. Place six drops along the inside wall of each valve.
4. Replace valve caps.

Tips & Warnings

• Oil before each time the horn is played.
• Remove all oil if storing the instrument for a long period of time.
• Do not use olive/vegetable oil or petroleum jelly.
