Be honest: does your purse weigh more than a small child? Does it visibly weigh down one side of your body? Unless you are traveling away from home for long hours, you really don't need to overload your purse (and even then, there are appropriate alternative bags). Here are some suggestions for how to clean out and minimize purse baggage.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dump out your purse. Sort its contents into three piles: one for things you use every day, one for things you don't use as often and one for things you haven't used in a week. Remove the items in the last pile from your purse.

  2. Step 2

Every few days, make sure to remove the extra stuff from your purse, including things that have another home: extra change (buy a piggy bank), receipts, tampons (if it's not that time of the month), napkins and so on.

  3. Step 3

Throw trash away, your purse is not a Dumpster by default. It might be convenient to shove that gum wrapper in there, but they build up.

  4. Step 4

Don't keep your life in your bag. There's no need to carry your entire makeup bag, your homework, a book, a hairbrush, a first-aid kit and camera on you at all times. Unless you have an infant with you, don't prepare for all the small stuff. Each morning choose what you really need for that day. Staple beauty products, a wallet, a phone and glasses are understandable.

  5. Step 5

Decide on a reasonably sized purse, you won't be as apt to over-stuff it as with a large bag. Also, the more often you change your purse, the less likely it will accumulate extra junk and clutter. Keep yourself organized, clean, realistic and try to avoid doing your daily lifting with your purse.
