Spending a lot of time on our feet in uncomfortable shoes can lead to the build up of corns and calluses. Calluses are often classified by a thick, hardened layer of skin resulting from rubbing, friction or pressure. Corns on the other hand, are much smaller then calluses and have a hard center which develops on the tops or sides of toes. Fortunately, there are natural ways to cure calluses and corns. However, I must caution you to seek your doctor’s advice on how to care for corns and calluses especially if you have diabetes or any other condition that may increase complication.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Try using Castor oil . It’s considered to be a thick oil that can be applied at night over the effected area. Make sure you wear a pair of socks to prevent staining your sheets.
Step2
Soak your feet in Epsom salt and warm water for about 20 minutes. This will soften the callus and add some relief by decreasing swelling and inflammation.
Step3
Once the callus is softened, gently wear down with a pumice stone.
Step4
Moisturize with calendula herbal cream or oil to help keep the skin soft and to prevent painful cracking. If you can not find calendula herbal cream or oil, try to look for lotions with lactic acid.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are doing outdoor activities that may cause any pressure or friction make sure you wear the proper gloves.
  • Wear non-medicated corn pads to protect feet.
  • Wear proper footwear. A shoe repair shop may be able to stretch your shoe if it’s too tight. A rule of thumb, you should be able to wiggle your toes in your shoes.
  • If biomechanics is your problem, try using arch supports or consult a podiatrist.
  • Do not put Castro oil over broken skin
  • Do not cut corns or calluses due to increase inflammation risk.
  • If you are a diabetic do not use a pumice stone

on 5/13/2008 Nice article, I liked the tips and warnings section. The only problem is that it is Castor oil not Castro oil.
