So you invested in spring cleaning software or made your own spring cleaning list. Don’t forget to add cleaning out the inside and outside of your washing machine. You could hire merry maid to do it for you but it is so easy and cheep that this makes it into the do it yourself file at my house.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • baby wipes
  • dish washing tablets
  1. Step 1

There are many ways to clean out your washing machine and buying expensive washing machine cleaners is not for me. I can give you a few spring cleaning ideas for your washer that won’t break your budget. Start by turning your washer on for a full cycle.

  2. Step 2

Open up the lid and wipe the entire top and down into the top of the tub with a baby wipe. Baby wipes are thick and will allow you an over all clean without having to scrub.

  3. Step 3

Throw two dish washer tablets in the tub as it fills. I have found for the washing machine that the ones that have a pre wash work better. That would be the ones with the powder and the liquid mix. I use the ones with the clean rinse. Not dropping any brand names here but they have a red ball in the center when you go to look for them if you’re interested.

  4. Step 4

Here is the trick to the whole job. After the tub has filled to its fullest setting tip the setting knob back and forth between medium and large load. This will cause extra water to dump into the tank. You will have to do it 10 times to make it worth your while. By bringing the water level up above normal you allow the dish washing soap to remove that icky ring that forms where the water level is normally at.

  5. Step 5

Once it finishes washing and before the tub dries out; run the rinse cycle one more time to remove any additional soap. There you have it, A spot free washing machine that shines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Repeat every 3 months to keep your washer in good health.
  • Never leave the washing machine unattended while the lid is open.
