Create a Microsoft Word Table

One of the more useful capabilities in Microsoft Word is to create tables. Word makes it extremely easy to create tables of varying sizes and styles.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place your cursor on the position in your Word document where you want your table to be created. Under the Insert menu, click on the “Table” button as shown in Figure 1. You will be presented with a grid whereby you can select the size of your table. Moving the cursor over the grid allows you to specify the number of rows versus columns. When the right number of rows and columns are highlighted, press the left mouse button to create the table.

  2. Step 2

After you’ve created, you can freely enter any information you want. Once they are entered (or even before it), you can make various formatting changes including centering each cell as shown in Figure 2 where you first highlight the cells in the table that you want to change and then select the centering button under the “Layout” menu.

  3. Step 3

Greater control over these formatting options can be obtained through the Table Properties dialog box which can be accessed by first clicking anywhere on the table so that the Layout menu is present and then clicking on the properties button. These provide just a small sample of the types of formatting and styling you can perform on this table.
