Emo. Have you heard people talking about this new 'emo' craze but aren't quite sure what you need to do to fit in with them? It's easy. Here is a step by step guide on how to be an emo.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knowledge of obscure bands
  • Tight Jeans
  • Hair Dye
  • Band T-shirts
  • Studded Belts
  • Inability to hold a camera straight
  1. Step 1

Hair. There are a few emo hairstyles. Usually the hair is jet-black with streaks of hot pink, blonde or some other extremely bright color. Bangs are very popular. Not just normal bangs, though, these have to cover only one eye and go down at least to the middle of your face. They have to be completely inconvenient. The other choice of hairstyle is .. well, none. Just wake up, put some gel in your hair, and mess it up as much as you possibly can. That's hot.

  2. Step 2

Wardrobe. The emo style consists of wearing a bunch of things that wouldn't normally go together. Some of the must-haves are: jeans that are about 5 sizes too small, studded belts, band t-shirts (it doesn't matter if you know/like the band), ties, horn-rimmed glasses, old sneakers (usually very worn and draw on), messenger bag, lots of bracelets. Switch it up any way you'd like but remember; more is always better.

  3. Step 3

Music. Listen to obscure emo bands that no one has ever heard of. Hell, you can even make some up - it'll only make you cooler. Just make sure the band name is really long. Something like "Wednesday Night is When We Cry" will be a hit. Also, make sure you hit up the local music scene. Going to see live shows is the epitome of cool.

  4. Step 4

Emotion. Emo is short for emotional, don't forget that. You need to basically act depressed all of the time, even if your life is great. Talk about how life is pointless and the world is filled with people who want nothing more than to rip your heart out of your chest and leave it bleeding as you cry. Write poems - lots of them. The sadder and more dramatic the better. You can also cry if you have time between writing poems and going to cool shows. You can do them at the same time if you want. That'd be cool.

  5. Step 5

Angles. Never, ever, under ANY circumstances shall you take a picture straight-on. Angles are the most important thing. They define emo. They make you look cool. Not much needs to be spoken here: Just do it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If all else fails, be "unique" by acting just how all the other emo kids are acting.
  • Learn how to fight because you might get beat up a lot.

on 4/11/2008 Haha. This article is meant to be a joke and some people did get a laugh from it - thanks to you guys. To everyone saying it's bad to be depressed, then you just don't understand the whole fad nor how to take a joke. It's ok, you'll learn some day.

Also, you must have been somewhat interested if you took the time to read it.

on 4/6/2008 Getting emotional is more about passion than fashion! I liked your article though. I guess this article is meant 4 girls. Boys have an easier way to get emo since ages- by finding their near and dear ones in trouble. You will know that. To feel it closely, act troubled before your boyfriend and notice the drastic changes on his face.
