How to Influence Your Child's Political Views
Every day, parents have the opportunity to influence how the political views of their children. Family members typically have the greatest impact on how a child thinks and acts on many subjects, including politics. A parent's best chance to pass on his views is through his own actions and words. However, don't confuse influence with force, or a need to deny the child information about the other side. Make your opinions known, but don't insist the child follow them blindly.

Make an effort to talk about the presidential candidates with your children. Let them know what each of the parties stand for and against. Give them examples of some of the issues that divide the parties, and why you have the opinion you do toward each one.

Pass your views on to children while you watch politically-sensitive entertainment programs. Ask them what they thought of the program, and then explain your views and why you believe them.

Actions sometimes speak louder than words. Be consistent with your own actions when it comes to politics. The child will likely see that and follow your example.

Watch political debates together as a family, and discuss the positives and negatives that each side presents. Make some popcorn to make it seem more fun for restless children. If you insist they watch at least a small portion with you, they may become more inclined to have opinions and express them to you. It will give you a chance to openly discuss your own views in return.
