There are two ways to start knitting here is one way to do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn and knitting needles
  1. Step 1

Hold two needles together and place a slipknot around both then open the knot holding and mesure from each end the knots came together how long it is. This helps you to figure out how much yarn you have to mesure of from the beginning of the yearn. Take that mesuremant and multiply it by how many stiches you need to begin your project. Add at least 12 inches to that mesurement so you can weave in that yarn later. Mesure fom the start of your yearn and then redo the slip knot at that point and place it over both needles. You are now ready to begin. Start with thicker wool or yarn if you are a beginner to knitting. Real wool is always called wool and if made of any other material it is called yarn

  2. Step 2

Take both needles with your slip knot into your right hand and spread your first finger and thumb of your left hand place your needles a short distance from the left hand and have the short end of the yearn go behind your thumb and the other end behind your first finger holding both together below the needle. Your should now form a V between your first finger and thumb leading to the slip knot on the needle.

  3. Step 3

Bring your needles under the yearn coming from behind your thumb over the the first and second part of the V form a loop with the yarn leading from your first finger and bring the needles with that loop through the loop on your thumb. This is your second knot. Repeat this until your have the required numbers of knots now called stitches.
When done, carefully remove one needles by pulling it out of the formed stitches. Take the needles with the stitches in your left hand and start knitting.
I will see if I can make a video for this upload and add it at a later time.
