How to Clean The Hair Out Of Your Roomba Vacuum

Have you invested in an expensive Roomba vacuum cleaner and now upset that you can't seem to get all the pet (or human) hair out of your Roomba? Maybe you even burned out your motor. There is a method to this madness.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Before your first use, clean your floor completely 'the old fashioned way'. IMHO, A Roomba was not meant for heavy cleaning, especially if it involves a lot of hair. (see my other article for picking up pet hair easily)
Step2
Clean what you can with a shop vac. You will be surprised by how much you'll get out of there and it's much quicker than doing it by hand.
Step3
Open up the brush turning gear box, paying special attention to the yellow bearings and brush motor drive shaft.
Step4
Clean the brush bearings and brushes of dog, cat or human hair as well. A small set of fine scissors to cut the longer hair will make this job easier.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you prefer, you can send your Roomba in for servicing but their turn around time could be a month.
  • Read your warranty. Depends on your model but using a screwdriver can void your warranty. With the newer ones, this should only apply to the module that you opened, not the whole Roomba.
  • These are just ideas of what I do. I'm not responsible for how you treat your Roomba.
