How to Cleanse Skin for Reduced Acne

This is how I keep my acne down to a minimum without prescription medication or more expensive medication. (I would try to name a cure, but I've never seen one that completely rids my skin of acne). Anyhow, read on to see what works for me--and you are welcome to try it as well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • package of cotton balls
  • toner (preferably medicated with salicylic acid)
  • astringent medicated with salicylic acid
  • acne cleanser medicated with salicylic acid
  • face lotion medicated with salicylic acid
  • acne spot treatment with either salicylic acid or 10% benzoyl peroxide (optional)
  • washcloth
  • soap

Step1
Cleanse face, neck, and under chin with soap and water applied to a washcloth.
Step2
Apply acne cleanser to face, neck, and underneath the chin. It can be left on for a few minutes, then wiped off. Rinse out the washcloth and then scrub off acne cleanser.
Step3
Wet a cotton ball with astringent. Apply all over face, neck, and under chin. (There may be a noticeable amount of dirt or makeup on the cotton ball, this is good as it is cleansing the deep down dirt and the pores).
Step4
Wet a cotton ball with toner and again apply to face, neck, and under the chin. (Again you may notice more dirt or makeup and it is good for the same reason as above, only it is further cleansing the area applied to).
Step5
Apply acne lotion. This will usually cool any slight burning sensation that may have been caused by the astringent or toner.
Step6
If there is large acne or a good deal of acne in any particular spot, use the acne spot treatment to make these go away faster. If this causes a burning sensation, use more lotion on the spot or try to clean the spot treatment off.
Step7
Repeat this process twice a day if possible. Not all products need to be used if they cause any problems, but then the results will likely not be the same. This should help reduce the amount of acne in almost any case.

Tips & Warnings

  • Salicylic acid is better to clear acne in certain cases.
  • The amount of benzoyl peroxide in the acne spot treatment is the only amount known in my case to actually beneficial--some people get results with smaller amounts.
  • Makeup remover is not necessary with this method.
  • To treat blackheads try products like blackhead removing patches or products specifically labeled for clearing blackheads.
  • If anything causes extreme discomfort or rash discontinue use and see a doctor if necessary. (Like as in the rash continues for days).
  • Use items mentioned only as personal comfort allowed.
  • For severe acne, a person might still want to see a dermatologist or even to verify that this amount of treatment is necessary/beneficial.
