The Hierophant

The tarot deck is very old and rich with symbology. Each card has many facets that add to its meaning. The Hierophant represents our relationships with belief and society. The Hierophant is the teacher, passing on secret information to the initiates of society. Its presence in a layout usually means an emphasis on group activities and conformity.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A tarot deck
  1. Step 1

Consider that the Hierophant reminds you to consider your community as you make your decisions and plan your life. You could not be an independent individual without the support of the society around you.

  2. Step 2

Know that the Hierophant may be telling you that a teacher is coming, or even that you will become a teacher.

  3. Step 3

Be aware that the Hierophant encourages you to carefully examine any rebellious feelings you might be having. Rebellion for the sake of rebellion serves neither society nor the individual.

  4. Step 4

Know that the Hierophant reversed warns you against trusting a teacher or authority figure. You may become disappointed in someone you have considered a mentor. It may be time to learn to rely on your own judgment in life, especially in issues involving the larger society.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Hierophant urges you to continue learning. It may be telling you to go back to school.
  • The Hierophant encourages you to examine your belief systems. Stay conscious, but there's nothing wrong with going with the flow of the world around you.
  • The Hierophant is usually a card of learning and culture. If it's reversed, you need to examine your position regarding those areas of life.
