Things You'll Need:
- Any jar with a lid
- Moss
- potting soil
- Small pebbles
-
Step 1
If you don't already own a apothecary jar, they are easy to find. Really, any jar with a lid will work, i have even planted a glass decanter. Start by cleaning the jar. Next you'll want to line the bottom and sides of the jar with green moss. If your using dried moss, soak it in tepid water for 10 minutes to rehydrate. Line your jar only about halfway up the sides, you'll need the room for plants to grow.
-
Step 2
Add a single layer of pebbles at the bottom of the moss to keep excess water from plant roots. Now add a high quality potting mix to within a few inches of the top of moss. Make sure not to add too much soil at this time, it's easier to add than to take away.

Step 3
LADY SLIPPER ORCHIDS LOVE THE HUMIDITY IN A JARAlmost any tropical plant would love the moist environment of a enclosed jar. Don't try for succulents though, the air is too moist for them. Put your plant in the pocket of soil and add a "small" amount of water. Remember, you've already wet the moss which will add to the moisture. Top off with more moss to cover the soil.
