I've eaten with chop sticks for as long as I can remember, but when I'm out I see some people struggle with it, or hear people talk about not being able to pick up enough food. So I thought I would see if there is anyway I can explain in a few steps the basics of what to do and not to do.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • something to eat (noodles with be best for beginners)
  • chopsticks to eat it with
  • a place where you can eat alone in case you make a mess!
  1. Step 1

You're going to use the hand that you write with, put the first chopstick in your hand like a pencil you would hold to write with...you should be holding it wherever comfortable to you, I usually for big bites hold them closer to the food and for smaller peices closer to the top of the chopstick itself.

  2. Step 2

The second chopstick is going to rest on your thumb in a way that it is secure but still relaxed.

  3. Step 3

Pinch them together a few times to make sure you're in the right position...and enjoy your meal!

Tips & Warnings
  • If they become loose in your hand use the bottom of your plate or bowl to push them back up, just tap a couple times.
  • If you are going out and want to pick them up without having to do that whole set up and not look like you don't know what you're doing, pick them both up like a pen or pencil and allow the second chopstick to fall down to the thumb resting position on its own by simply pulling up the other chop stick...
  • Practice makes perfect! Have fun!
