Step 1
Look for detail in the job ad. There should be an actual job description in the posting. Employers who use Craigslist understand that they will be inundated with responses so they will be as specific as possible in the posting.
-
Step 2
If you see a job description, great. You may have found a legitimate job posting but you should keep looking. If you see a website, visit that site before you apply. Make sure you’re not setting yourself up to receive spam by sending an email.
-
Step 3
Some job descriptions don’t have a website so you have to pay close attention to the actual job description. If a job description says anything about experience not necessary, be wary. There aren’t many jobs that will include a description and then say that you don’t need experience to do it. It’s a conflicting statement.
-
Step 4
Another thing to look for is a job description that includes several different types of jobs. It’s kind of hard to hire someone to do marketing, advertising and sales all at once. Although those are similar disciplines, they each require a separate skill set and personality type.
-
Step 5
Don’t give up. When you start paying close attention to job ads, you will soon notice that there are a lot more illegitimate jobs postings than you thought but don’t despair. It is totally possible to find a legitimate ad on Craigslist. Just stay positive and keep looking.
