Things You'll Need:
- paper and pen
- computer
- 15 minutes
-
Step 1
Clean it out. Before you even leave for the store, clean out the fridge, freezer, and pantry of leftovers, expired foods, and old condiments. This makes putting new groceries away much easier and helps check for items you need to buy.
-
Step 2
Make a list. Reduce repeat trips to the store for forgotten items. Make a list on your computer of items you usually buy weekly such as toothpaste, coffee, and milk. Print out a copy before your shopping trip and circle the items you need each week. Leave blank space to add in the other things you need.
-
Step 3
Organize your list. Organize your list into categories such as dairy, produce, frozen foods etc. This allows you to make sure you get all items on your list from one area before moving on and reduces the dreaded backtracking.
-
Step 4
Buy in bulk. Consider buying non-perishable items in bulk once a month in a separate trip. Buying things such as dog food, paper products, and cleaning supplies monthly will reduce time spent on subsequent shopping trips.

on 4/18/2009 good tips...one other suggestion is not to grocery shop while hungry...no telling what you'll bring home if your stomach is growling as you shop
