Knitting can be a fun and complicated hobby to learn. One of the most difficult aspects of learning to knit is simply beginning a project. Read on to learn how to begin the first stitch when knitting anything from a blanket to a sweater.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knitting needles
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  1. Step 1

Pull about a twelve inch string from your ball of yarn, leave it attached.

  2. Step 2

Take the end of the string and cross it over itself near the base of the ball of yarn. You should now have a string that is in the shape of the letter "p."

  3. Step 3

Pick up the loop of the "p" and lay it over the yarn that was the base of the "p." You should now have a shape that is similar to a pretzel.

  4. Step 4

Attach the loop to a knitting needle and pull to tighten as necessary. This knot is considered the first stitch.
