If you’re going to ride seriously, then you will end up eventually showing your horse in a horse show. If you’re going to enter a horse show, you will end up trying to win the classes you enter. The big shows require qualification and the way you qualify is through winning events in smaller shows. So there is a lot riding on your performance in horse shows.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step in winning a horse show event is your appearance and your attire. You need to dress in clean, neat clothing depending on what your area of equestrian riding is. Make sure that your clothes fit and that they are ironed and clean. Feel welcome to add a touch of your own personal style to your outfit. You can do this by selecting certain colors or designs of clothing, as well as hair pins. Wearing the right boots is important too, and they should be well cared for.

  2. Step 2

Make sure that your horse has been bathed recently, is reasonably dust-free, and completely free of any mud clumps. The hair on their body should be sleek and shiny as well. A very thorough grooming should also happen before each ride and the hooves should be shined. Comb, pick and brush your horse’s mane and tail to make them flowing and conditioned.

  3. Step 3

Before each of your classes, you will need to warm up your horse so that you will have maximum control in all of your rides. Having control of your horse and riding in sync will be helpful in all of your classes. Try to relax yourself completely and keep your horse set up and moving forward.

  4. Step 4

Going with the flow is another incredibly helpful thing to remember during a horse show. When you have entered the show arena and are riding in front of the judge, it is not the time for a schooling session. If your horse seems like he is not going to go in right direction or that is going to cut across the arena or try to circle, go with it. When he tries to circle, make him cut across the arena as if you planned it. Even if you do not have control, do whatever it takes to make it look like you do.

  5. Step 5

Your last step in winning a horse show event is to smile. Relax and just have fun. If you start to get tense, sing or talk to yourself. Let a huge, ear-splitting grin come across your face. If the judge sees that you are having fun, she will automatically give you a second look.
