Power failures or surges can disrupt your computer's electric flow, causing it to shut down or reboot on its own. To ensure the document you are working on is not totally lost, frequently save it by clicking on the disk icon in the top menu bar or by pressing CTRL-S. Word offers an additional safety precaution called AutoRecover which automatically saves your document at preset intervals so you can retrieve the file in the event your computer shuts down.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Tools Menu To determine if AutoRecover is on, click on Tools from the top menu bar, then Options from the drop down menu.
Step2
Options Dialogue Box Click the Save tab. If "Save AutoRecover info every" is not checked, check it and adjust the time if necessary. (10 to 15 minutes is good.)
Step3
Click OK.
