Popcorn ceilings have been extremely popular through the years as an easy ceiling choice. Although they serve well as ceilings, they are not so easy to clean. With a gentle hand, some patience, and a lot of time to spend, you can still clean your popcorn ceiling!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • An extended reach paint roller
  • A feather duster
  • A fresh coat of paint (optional)

Step1
Carefully vacuum your ceiling with a soft, wide attachment on the nozzle. This is your very best option.
Step2
Next, to remove cobwebs and severe dust, use a long-reach feather duster. Remove each cobweb from the feather duster before moving on to the next one, so that the residue does not spread to other parts of your ceiling.
Step3
Third, and this is optional, apply a fresh coat of paint. Once most of your dust is gone, a new coat of paint will seal off the popcorn texture and help prevent it from crumbling in the future.
Step4
Instead of painting over your popcorn ceiling, a different option would be to remove the popcorn texture from your ceiling. Homeowners like this choice because it will make future cleaning MUCH easier. Use the link below for directions on how to do this - it's a seperate how-to!

Tips & Warnings

  • Vacuuming is the best technique for cleaning your ceiling.
  • Removing the popcorn texture is the best long-term solution, followed by a fresh coat of paint.
  • Do not use any liquid cleaners on your popcorn ceiling, unless you intend to remove the texture.
