How to recruit contestants for a beauty pageant

The beauty pageant industry has flourished largely in part to the young women and girls who compete in them. Recruiting these focused and dedicated young women and girls may seem easy but it’s not. It takes a special kind of lady to compete in a pageant and it takes time to recruit that type of lady.

1. Create an ad that you can place on sites like craigslist, model mayhem and on a flyer. Depending on the age range of your desired contestants, you can post the flyers at local colleges and universities. If you’re going for younger contestants, you may want to visit local community centers or reach out to organizations that cater to younger ladies. Before you can begin recruiting, you must create a plan.
2. Now that you have a plan (if you don’t have a plan yet, stop here and go back to step 1), you can start recruiting. If you can, find someone to help you. Recruiting can become overwhelming and you may need help to keep things organized.
3. Once you’ve gotten a good number of responses, you should start setting up interest meetings. You want to have as few of these meetings as possible. Don’t get so bogged down with interest meetings that you don’t give yourself enough time to prep the contestants before the pageant. You should have at least two interest meetings to give out information and answer questions all at once. However, you shouldn’t have more than four. Going forward, you need to start preparing the ladies to begin the application process.
4. Once you’ve had a couple of interest meetings, don’t relax. There’s a good chance that 50% of the ladies you’ve met with will not enter the pageant. You must keep up recruiting efforts for at least another couple of weeks. You shouldn’t have any more interest meetings, but you want to make sure you maintain a decent number of contestants once things get going. This is where the extra help comes in handy. While you’re handling the ladies who do become active contestants, your partner/assistant can handle the recruiting.
5. Maintain contact with the contestants. You should be having regular contact with the contestants. This doesn’t have to be in a meeting format but you need to be communicating with them on a regular basis to keep them interested and be of any assistance to them while they go through the pageant preparing process.
