You local animal shelter may be overburdened with stray and homeless animals. They're often overcrowded and underfunded. Here's how to help them provide for animals in need.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Spread the word.

One of the best ways to help shelter animals is to spread the word about their availability. Network with people to find out who's looking for a pet. Encourage them to visit their local animal shelter and consider adopting a homeless pet. The more awareness you create, the more pets will be adopted.
Step2
Sponsor a party.

Why not sponsor a party to create awareness of homeless animals? Encourage everyone to bring an item to donate to your local animal shelter. Once the shelter is over, deliver the items to them. They'll be most appreciative.
Step3
Encourage spaying and neutering.

Animal shelters are crowded because people fail to spay or neuter their pets. Spread the word about the importance of controlling the animal population.
Step4
Volunteer your time.

Local shelters need volunteers to walk the dogs and spend time with them. Dogs that are kept in a cage for long periods of time without stimulation can become depressed and withdrawn. This reduces their chances for adoption. Spend a day every week or two with shelter dogs.
Step5
Donate unused items.

You local animal shelter can use your old blankets and quilts for pet bedding. They're usually also in need of pet food, toys, and bones for the dogs. Consider donating some of these items when you do your spring cleaning.
