Below is a simple exercise to help you improve your balance and reduce the risk of a fall. It will help you learn how far you can lean without toppling over. All you need to execute the routine is a sturdy chair.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stand with your right side next to the back of a chair. Rest your right hand resting lightly on the back. Keep your body straight and lean to the right. If it feels safe, let your left foot come slightly off the floor. Don't bend at the waist. Keep your body straight.

  2. Step 2

    Come back to center.

  3. Step 3

    Keep your body straight and lean to the left. If it feels safe, let your right foot come slightly off the floor. Don't bend at the waist. Keep your body straight.

  4. Step 4

    Come back to center. Repeat 8 to 12 times. As you improve, challenge yourself by leaning more in each direction. See how you far you can go without losing your balance.
