Over 1.3 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year in the United States. Here are a few things you need to know to keep you and your skin safe in the summer and any other time you are out in the sun.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • skin care product with spf
  • cosmetics with spf
  • sunscreen with spf 15 or better

Step1
While out in the sun you need to apply at least one ounce (a full shot glass) of sunscreen to your entire body at least every 2 hours.
Step2
Keep an eye out for new products. Researchers are constantly developing new sun screens with more potent ingredients.
Step3
Read your sunscreen' s label. It should have "broad spectrum protection" meaning that it not only protects against UVB rays, which tan and burn, but also UVA rays, which penetrate deeply and cause skin aging and cancer.
Step4
Check your cosmetics. Skin care products with SPF are just as effective as sunscreen.
Step5
Even if you've never worn sunscreen before, start wearing it now. You can prevent future skin damage and help your body repair existing damage.
Step6
Even if you have dark or olive skin and NEVER burn, you are still susceptible to UVA damage which ages and causes skin cancer. So WEAR that sunscreen!
